Find and know the truth

In reference to Martha Hodges letter to the editor published Tuesday, Feb. 7: I agree that alienation is not a good thing in our community. It separates us.

However, I have to say that there is absolute truth and absolute falsehood. There is right and there is wrong.

To stand by and do nothing and say nothing in the face of lies and propaganda is simply cowardice and that is wrong.

The lies and hate that is propagated by both political parties is wrong and saying nothing is tantamount to condoning it. All that is needed for evil to triumph is for good people to do nothing and say nothing. Therefore, when we are confronted with lies and hate it is important to resist it and put forth the truth.

But how does one know or even find the truth? Well, it has become difficult lately, but not impossible.

Do the necessary research. Keep digging until you find the facts. How does one know facts from lies? Keep doing the research. Read. Find the sources of truth.

Truth appeals to one’s intellect and less to one’s emotions. The truth probably will not be found on Fox News or even CNN. Go deeper.

When you find the truth hold it tight and use it to motivate your actions and speech.

When you hear lies and partisan speech, speak up with the truth. Don’t just sit there and remain silent.

Lies and propaganda tend to end up with putting people in ovens by the millions.

Not good.

So, it is important to find and know the truth and spread it because lies and propaganda lead to loss of freedoms and ultimately life itself.

Practice aloha as you tell the truth.

Enough with the taxes

Can anyone tell me why, the state legislators are trying so hard to find new ways to tax Hawaii’s people and visitors? There are $2 billion in surplus funds that needs to be returned to its taxpayers.

Obviously, there are enough taxes now.
